This is a large and lusciously decorated leather shield from the Dinka people of East Africa. Has oval form with a central round nipple and natural colour pigment patterns throughout the front.  There are feather or wreath designs at the perimeter and a circular design around the nipple.  A wooden stick handle runs the length of the shield. Threaded through slits in the leather.  The patina is nicely developed.  In good condition. Doesn’t stand vertically unless supported, or hanging on the wall.  We guarantee  that this item has been tribally used. Height approx 130cm
